Mysterious Legend

Hello,

This one has been driving me nuts for several days. I have MS Project
Standard 2003 (SP2) installed on a WinXP Pro (all latest updates) PC. On a
particular file, the legend will randomly disappear from print/print preview
(gnatt chart). I don't believe I am doing anything to make it disappear. I do
not change the settings under "Page Setup - Legend - Legend on:" (it's set to
"Every Page"). I have not changed the default settings under "Format - Bar
Styles". In fact, while I was researching the problem in this news group, I
went back to this file (it was already open) and the legend was back...I had
not done anything to it between the time I could not see the legend via print
Print Preview and just now when it returned (a time of about 20 minutes). I
have not tried this file on another PC as this is the only one I have access
to with Project installed.

My work around was to copy and paste the data into a new file. I have not
experienced the legend disappearing in the new file. Could the original file
simply be corrupt and therefore cannot be fixed or is there some setting or
trick that I am not aware of? I have searched many on-line groups but have
not found anyone else with a similar problem. I'm OK with the work around
but, if possible, I would really like to solve this mystery.

Thanks...

Hi Tim,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Is sounds like a corrupt file. If you suspect a corrupt file, you could try
the suggestions in FAQ Item: 43. File Bloat? - Might be Corruption.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address:http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion. The file size doesn't seem to be
bloated but I tried the two suggestions listed in FAQ #43 anyway.
Unfortunately, neither one helped. I appreciate your help.

Tim
