Mysteriously Changing Font

I use Word 2007, and typically write in Times New Roman font. When I add a
symbol, it appears in Arial font, even though I've selected Times New Roman
as my default font. Also, when I'm composing a document in Times New Roman,
the font sometimes changes when I hit the return button and start a new
paragraph. Can you help?

What sorts of symbols? Sometimes Arial has characters that TNR
doesn't.

If your paragraph style is set for some font, and you've changed the
font manually, then when you start a new paragraph, it could be
reverting to the set style; or maybe the Style for Next Paragraph is
set to a different Style than the one you've just left.
