Mystery Palm Macros in MS Word

G

George

Wondered if someone might offer some insights...

Am using Palm V and MS Word 2002 on Win XP-pro PC. There used to be a
Palm.dot thing in a list of what Word called "disabled items" but I enabled
them. Now, three Palm-things show up in Word when click Tools > Macro >
Macros > (All active templates and documents)...
.....
PalmAppAddress.MAIN
PalmAppMemo.MAIN
PalmAppTodo.MAIN
and other macros...

Does anyone know what these are for, how they got there. I don't recall
installing them, and they don't seem to do anything. If highlight and click
RUN, Word says they are disabled (even though elsewhere in Word it says
"there are no disabled items".) Would like to just DELETE them, but real
mystery is... the DELETE button is greyed-out for these three. Any ideas (I
already posted a parallel post on
a Palm newsgroup). Thanks.

Hi George,

They are in an addin-somewhere. The post likely location for the template
containing these is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup.

I suspect that you got rh Palm when you were running an older version of
Word, Word 97 or even 95, and so the templates didn't carry a digital
signature, as that feature didn't exist then.

If you Ppalm works fine with your PC, then I would suggest you just move
that template and perhaps even delete it eventually.

It may be that some updated s/w that works with your current version of Word
is available for download from the Palm website.

Thanks Jonathan,

It looks like you may be absolutely correct, here's what is in...
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Startup...

~$ALMAPP.DOT 1KB 5/18/203
~$FMaker.dot 1KB 7/11/2003
PALMAPP.DOT 152KB 3//30/2001
PDFMaker.dot 124KB 9/13/2001

(By the way, It's odd the PDFMaker is 2001, since I re-installed it recently
and use it all the time in Word)

Would you suggest deleting the files beginning with "~"?
Would you delete all of these files? Or leave PDFMaker.dot?

Thanks again,
George

Hi George,

If you close Word, the two files starting with ~ should disappear of their
own accord. if they don't, then delete them when Word is closed.

Leave PDFMaker since you find it useful, and remove palmapp.dot.

By the way, the date on the PDFMaker template is the date of the last time
it was updated. It is normal for a file to keep that date when it is
installed.
