Named range/cell, sort & delete

I have a list with named range and subtotal (within the list). I need to
sort the list then delete some rows, and resort the list to the original
order. The subtotals are never delted. The problem I have is that named
reference for the range and subtotals change after the list is resorted. Is
there a way I can avoid this issue?

I'm not sure what you're doing, but if you fill a helper column with values like

2
3
4
5
....
as far as you need, then you can include that column when you sort your data.

After you delete the rows you don't need, you can resort your data by this
helper column and then delete it.

I'm not sure what you mean by the subtotals change after the data is resorted.

If these were inserted by Data|subtotals (xl2003 menus), then I wouldn't want to
put them back. I'd remove them, add the helper column, delete rows, resort,
delete the helper columns and do another data|subtotals to get the formulas
correct.
