Names Disappear

Outlook 2002 was installed on a new computer in March '08. The program came
with the purchase of a Viewsonic pocket pc and was never installed because
Office 2003 was on the desktop pc in use at that time. Today, after a sycn
to the Viewsonic pocket pc (after a hard reset), all the contact names were
gone from Outlook. The addresses and phones numbers remain. The names with
all information are on the pocket pc.
The old desktop pc had Windows XP Home Edition. This computer has Windows
XP Professional.

I'm not sure I understand why you'd install Outlook 2002 on a PC
successfully running Outlook 2003. In fact, it should be impossible to do
without first uninstalling Outlook 2003. Can you describe your exact
process?

Outlook 2002 was installed on the new computer. The old computer had Outlook
2003, so that program was used. This was stated to let you know that Outlook
2002 was never installed on a computer until March 2008, the new computer.
Sorry for the confusion.

Sync problems don't really have anything to do with Outlook because Outlook
does not take an active part in the sync and has no settings that control
the sync process. I take it you're using ActiveSync. The correct newsgroup
for that is microsoft.public.pocketpc.activesync.

What happens if you edit one of those contacts and add the name back in?
Does the PocketPC get the corrected contact?

The strange thing is all the names, phone numbers, etc. did sync to the
pocket pc, but the names are gone from Outlook on the desktop pc.
