naming folders

In my job i have to establish a large number of folders to which i add
documents. the names on the folders are long and take a good amount of time
to input. I do copy the folders from project to project but must change the
name for each folder which takes time. The names of the folders for any given
project only change slightly. Is there not a way to select all and substitute
one number in the names of the folders? i can do this in word but do not know
how to do it with folder names. any help is greatly appreciated

Your question is posted in an Excel forum although it doesn't appear to be
related. It's also a Mac forum, so let's hope you have a Mac for my trick to
work (otherwise, similar solutions exist for Windows)

Go to macupdate.com and download NameChanger. With it you'll be able to
rename folders in batches by appending or replacing characters.
