narration added in PP but it does not work

(running Office XP on XP Home) I've added narration in a presentation and
have a sound icon in each file related to an appropriate WAV file, which I
can play (but only outside PP). Each slide has an assocaited timing.
However when I go to slide show the sound icon dissapears and the slides just
sit there - don't even progress according to the timging. Any ideas welcome.

How did you create the WAV files? What program plays them outside of
PowerPoint? Also how large are the WAV files?

The sound icon should disappear thats the default for narration.
What can you see in custom animation is media first in the list is the
action "Play" after previous?
If you double click the sound icon in edit mode does it play?

I have created a successful broadcast for this presentation, but I couldn't
find a clean way to send out via e-mail so I thoguht I'd try narration. This
is the first time I have tried narration and I just used the standard route
in PP to create the narration. If I double click on the sound icon it does
not play. If I look at custom animation I have a clock Icon and then the
name of the appropriate WAV file. If I look in the directory, I can play the
WAV file in Windows Media Player no problem. I've checked the settings for
slide shows and they seem to be in order. The timings shown on the slide
sorter view seem to tie up with the times given in the WAV files.

I had some issues such as Pack and Go generating a PPZ file which was not
recognised. At that point I rebooted and did a repair on Office with no
difference. I then checked to see what I had loaded and whether I had missed
out any likely components. No change to the problem.

Media Player. Files are 65Kb to 1Mb.

Try without ticking the link box (this will embed the narration) If you need
the files linked try moving them to the presentation folder and reinserting.

Embedded seems to work. However my first narration was smoother than my
second! Is there any way of embedding the first set of linked sound files as
a narration rather than an inserted sound file - which doesn't seem to be
quite the same. I can't find anything obvious in menus or useful in help
file.
