Nasty bug in Office 2007

Hi David,

You're right about the Office Open XML files are Zip files, however, not
all features defined in the ZIP specification are supported in the Open
Packaging specification.

According to the Office Open XML specification part 2, it seems to me that
ZIP64 format extensions shall be recognizable to the Office Open XML spec
compatible applications. So it also could be other related ZIP
records/fields that confuses the Office Applications.

You can find out the detailed definitions in the Ecma Office Open XML
standard part 2, Annex C. ZIP Appnote.txt Clarifications
http://www.ecma-international.org/news/TC45_current_work/Office Open XML
%20Part%202%20-%20Open%20Packaging%20Conventions.pdf

I'll also try to find out more and update here.

Best regards,

Jie Wang

Hello Jie,

Sorry for interfering.

We have a number of bugs (at least, we believe they are bugs) in Outlook,
Excel as well as in Office controls. My problem is that I can't find the
right way to send them to the Office team(s).

For instance, a customer pointed us to the following problem: the text in
the custom CommandBarComboBox label gets bolder and bolder each time the
mouse passes over it. The problem occurs in Explorer windows of Outlook 2007
(or, in any non-Ribbon Office 2007 app) as well as in all Office 2003
applications.

I prepared a sample project in VS 2008 in order to demonstrate the creation
of such a combo. I understand that (technically) I can send it to the
"Visual Studio and .NET Framework" community at connect.microsoft.com but
that seems to be a rather long, awkward and probably wrong way. I can
publish a simple VBA macro (and instructions) demonstrating the same issue
here. Will this do? Or, maybe you can suggest a better way?

Regards from Belarus (GMT+2),

Hi David,

According to folks at the Word team, ZIP64 is supported. It may be some
incompatibility between the Zip library you're using and the Word
implementation.

If you could provide such a sample file for diagnosis, I'd be happy to pass
it into the right hand. You can attach the sample file in reply to this
thread or send it to me at JIEWAN [at] microsoft [dotcom].

Thanks,

Jie Wang
