Navagation View question

Using the Navigation View, in my IPP's root directory (h t t p : //
myweb.org) I have:

index.html
|
Default.htm
|
then the rest of my web pages.

Question: the "index.html" page does not seem to be doing anything (my IPP
created it with "Coming Soon" before I imported my web).
What happens if I delete "index.html" from the root directory? Is it
superfluous? Or should I leave well enough alone?
I'm using FP 2000 on my local machine, and my IPP is running a Windows
server with FP extensions.
