Navigation bar image loses quality

Hi,

When I save the web page that I've made, the navigation
bar gets converted to a gif that has very poor quality,
making the words completely unreadable. Is there a way to
tell Publisher 2000 to save the image as PNG or JPG
instead? I may be able to replace the generated html by
hand every time, but that gets tedious.

If there's a way to have Publisher save the the navigation
bar in a better looking format so that the text on the
buttons is readable, I'd love to hear it!

thanks for any advice,

No there is no way to tell it to use a different format.
Not directly that is.
Indirectly you are effecting this.
If you insert a jpg on the page then Pub will create a jpg copy and/or a png
copy if you have png support turned on in the browser support options under
web options.
If png was turned off it would create a jpg.
If you placed a filled background on the jpg insert or placed some text on
it or in some other way you layered another page element with the jpg then
Pub would create a gif copy.
If you insert a gif than Pub would create a gif copy.

If you'd like some specific advice post back with your url and also with
details such as is this your own custom menu or one of the wizard menus.

Hi David,

Thanks for the help; I'll give it a shot. You also have
a very helpful web page, and have given out some great
advice on the newsgroup here, too.

Is your work here is on a volunteer (non-paid) basis?
Either way, it's very nice to see you doing that - people
like you really make my computer work a lot more
enjoyable. And it's also nice to know that Microsoft
promotes this sort of activity among its userbase, too.

thanks for your time and experience,

Hi David,

What you described below didn't happen. The page had
several jpg images on it. Those images were saved as
jpgs. But the navigation bar, which publisher
autogenerates, was saved as a gif.

I'm going to create the entire site again from scratch to
see what happens. Do you have any other suggestions, or
am I misunderstanding this?

thanks,

BG

don't know what you are referring to.
you say your jpgs came out as jpgs, that would be true.
you say the autimatic nav bar came as a gif, that is true.
