In the old days, when you hit the home key on the keyboard
you were taken to cell A1.
How can this setting be restored?

That is a holdover from Lotus 123. You can restore 123-style
navigation by going to the Tools menu, choosing Options, then
Transition, and checking the Transition Navigation Keys option.

Under Excel style navigation, CTRL+HOME takes you to A1.
