Navigation Pane doesn't work...

I'm newly returned to a Mac after a 10-year hiatus. I'm generally happy but I've had a few problems in Word 2008 that make it very frustrating to work in larger documents.

One is that the Navigation Pane simply doesn't work.

1. I switch to the Print Layout view.

2. I select "Navigation Pane" in the View menu.

3. The Navigation Pane appears but regardless of which view I select, thumbnail or document map, no matter what I click in the pane my location in the main document doesn't change.

Is this a known issue? Any solutions?

Again, I suggest this is a window layering problem produced by Spaces.

Word 2008 is not yet compatible with Spaces, and we're waiting on a fix.

Try turning Spaces off when using Word.

It doesn't do it here on my old-tech and totally un-lust-worthy Intel
MacBook.

Cheers

Nope, not Spaces. I have it off.

I'll install 10.5.2 -- I haven't had time to deal with that yet -- I'll report back.

Also, the problem with the Navigation Pane fixed itself with a restart of Word.

I suspect it happenes whenever the double-click-to-select problem arises.
I'll keep working and see if they die hand-in-hand.
