Web site initially created w/FP98, computer crashed, extracted HD contents to
CD, saved them to new computer, installed FP2003 on new computer, published
local to remote using saved contents of CD. On remote site, navigation
doesn't appear in shared borders [top and left], however, bottom borders are
viewable. On local site all appears OK, and when "viewed in browser"
everything appears OK and works OK as well. Recalculated links and
republished. No change.

Running FP2003 on Windows XP home edition, site: www.cancersurvivors.org

I know this is something fixable, I just haven't been able to figure it out.
Am using Jim's FP2003 Inside Out as my resource material. Would very much
appreciate any thoughts and advice on how to solve this problem.

TIA

It would have been better to have open the remote site first and publish that back to your local PC,
instead of using the content from the CD if the remote site has the FP extensions.

If the remote site has the FP extensions, then open the remote site in FP, then run Tools |
Recalculate Hyperlinks.

Thank you for the quick reply. Actually, I did open the remote site first and
published that back to my local PC and had similar problems with that one. In
desperation I tried the second way.

My host does have the latest FP extrensions. I did as you suggested and
opened the remote site in FP and clicked tools/recalculate hyperlinks.
Nothing changed.

Anything else? TIA

It appears you will have to re-build the navigation structure at this point, unless some one else
have another solution.

Yikes...that's not exactly what I was hoping to hear. OK, how exactly does
one go about rebuilding the navigation structure if one already exists on the
local site? Is there some sort of side-by-side drag-and-drop options in Front
Page? TIA

Well, Thomas, I've made some progress. see: www.cancersurvivors.org
I now have the navigation intact on most pages, however, the [home] page is
missing from all the navigation bars.

My link bar properties for both the top and left borders are set at -same
level with additional pages checked for -home and -parent. I suspect
therein lies the problem, but for the life of me I don't see the logic.

All of the pages should be able to link to [home], and all of the pages have
a parent page so they should be able to link to [parent]. The home page,
which is the only page without a parent doesn't include the top and left
shared borders, however, it does have a shared bottom border. Egads, this
will seem so easy when I've finally worked it through that I'll kick myself.

I thank you so much for your help so far. Got any ideas based on the above?

So, now it appears that the [up] page is probably what I used to call the
[home] page in FP98. When I click on the [up] page on any page of the remote
web a "cannot find" error message is displayed.

There's obviously a step I have missed here or one that translated
ineffectively in the reverse publish mode. In the navigation view on the
local site all the pages are correctly linked to the home page. Any ideas on
what I have to do to get the [up] link to open the home page?

Yes, you're right, it is Apache. OK, this should be my last question on this
subject [one can hope?], now:

When I go to my local site, click publish, the folders of both sites are
viewable...the remote site includes folders for borders w/subs, and several
other sites which appear to be administrative in nature. These folders do not
exist on the local site, I suspect because it was generated with FP98.

I open the remote site and click on the borders/top/ folder and it comes up
as an unfinished template-type page with the "insert this page in
navigation..." msg. As does the border/left, Which certainly explains why the
[up] link displays the "can't find" msg.

Seems to me that the problems is the missing folders in the local site. So,
I'm thinking if I publish the remote to the local, that should put those
missing folders on the local. Then I could go in and copy/paste border
navigation from one of the "good pages", or if that doesn't work, just
recreate the borders in the new folder. Or, can I just click on "new folder"
on the local, name it borders, etc., and go from there?

Also, puzzling to me, is that on my local, in code, the navigation info for
borders is all there in each page but appears to be "greyed out" or lighter
than the rest of the print. This is the way that FP98 did the shared border
thing. Does that have to be removed on each page so as not to conflict? Your
thoughts.?

I really, really, appreciate the help I get here. As you can easily see I'm
not a computer person; I'm just using this as a tool to provide information
and research. Thank you again, so much for all your help and encouragement.

Hi, I am having the same issue. My navigation hasn't worked for a month. I
have done everything I can think of except throw it out the window.
Recalculated links both on remote and local site. Deleted default.htm.
Deleted the navigation off the pages and created it again. I am at a loss.
What did you do to fix yours? Thanks in advance for your help.

M

Missing Navigation

My situation may be different, but, I solved the issue of missing navigation
by changing the Link Bar style to an html type of link.
