need columns for a "magazine" for my writing class

I am making an essay "magazine". This magazine needs to be layed out like a
magazine. I have some knowledge of Word but when I need to make something
such as columns or tables things do not go well. Is there a quick tutorial I
can use. This magazine is for a final grade in my Intermediate Writing class.
I am not computer savy.
