Micro-Managed Maniac

I have worked as an Exec.Asst. for 25 years. So I feel I do know what I am
doing. My current boss has never had an assistant. We are constantly butting
heads. She piles on the work and while I;m working on it, she is being a
micro-manager. Has to know what I am working on, what is left, did I do this
job this way, why was it done that way, why is this not finished yet, etc.
She types a lot of her own letters and gives them to me to format and
correct. I give it back when completed. She gives it back with changes. I
give it back when completed. She gives it back with new changes again. This
can go on several times. With her trying to do her own work and trying to
make sure I am doing all of work correctly, she misses telling me certain
important things and then blames it on me. I didn't have enough sense to ask.
She missed a meeting but I should have looked on her calendar to reminder of
it. #1 she looks at her own calendar all day, #2 she is always putting
meetings on her calendar and then not going, etc. but that was my fault. I
have only been here for 7 mos. and I am ready to quit. Is there any type of
daily form that I can use showing all her appointments, what she needs for
each, and whatever else you think would be good for her to see.

I tried copying her daily calendar and attaching it to the front of a
folder. In the folder I put smaller folders for each meeting that contain
directions, agenda, etc. This doesn't seem to satisfy her. I usually give
her two folders at once. In the afternoon, I give her the next days folder.
The next morning, I give her the following days folder because sometimes she
doesn't come back into the office. There has been occasions when I get the
future folder back before the day is even here. Also, I found she doesn't
always look in them because she will ask me for things and I have to tell her
to look in the folder.

Please help me. What can I do? Is there any type of form that will help
us? Or should I turn in my slip! Thanks.

As for me, I would start looking elsewhere for employment. Nothing you can
do will be enough for her so trying to improve how you organize things will
have no net effect on her - people who are bent on micro-managing will only
find something else to criticize. You can't change her, get out while you
still have some prospects left.

If you create another form, it won't change anything. Just give her
something else to micro-manage and complain about.

This is not a paper work issue, it's a behaviorial issue on the part of your
boss. That can't be fixed in an office newsgroup.

And it's not likely you'll get her to change, in my past experience.

If I were in your shoes, I'd find a job I was happy with.
