Need help changing the starting page number

I am working on a 100+ page document in Word 2000 and I need the starting
page number to be 2. I have gone into "view header/footer" and have gone to
"format page number" and changed the "start at" to 2, but when I insert the
page numbers, it starts at 3. Any help anyone can give would be greatly
appreciated!

Does it start at 3 on page 2? Do you have an Odd Page section break before
the second page?

Hi Colleen, check if you've set the section to begin on an odd page. (File >
Page Setup > Layout tab. You'll need to set it to Even or the New page option.
