Need Help Deleting Unwanted Rules

B

I am using Word 11.2 on a Mac PowerBook G4 OSX 10.4.4.

The problem I'm having is with being unable to delete rules I make in a
document. These are the rules that are created by typing in three
hyphens --- and then doing Return. It makes a rule run across the the
width of the page to the margins.

That's fine, but how do I delete one? It seems to float in the space,
and all I end up deleting is text on top or bottom of it. Very
frustrating!

Help!

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Select the rule and any space around it.

Go to Format | Borders and Shading, and set it to no border.

That rule is actually a border applied to a paragraph mark, and if you
delete the paragraph mark, the border just moves to the next one, la di dah,
cause it's formatting instead of actual selectable typing. If you want to
stop Word creating them, the setting is on Tools | AutoCorrect, AutoFormat
As You Type (along with many other annoying settings that it's often good to
turn off).
