Need help inserting a hit counter using M/S Word 2007 + FTP /web

Most free hit counters tell you to copy the code on your web page, then use
an FTD to place on website. My provider tells me they don't know how to do
it since 2007 left out the HTML choice. Anyone know of a work-around?

html code is text, so open it in Notepad and add in the counter script.
You should be able to access the service provider's FTP server using Windows
Explorer provided you have the address, the log-in name and the password to
hand.

Graham, I tried what you suggested with no success. I pasted the
counter text on Notepad with a .txt extension. I then stored this
in my web page format and uploaded with a FTD to my website.
However, I got the same results. Only the code printed there???
Perhaps I did not do it properly?

What I meant was that you should open the html file of the web page in
notepad, and copy into it the counter code from your provider at the
appropriate place then resave the html file before posting that to your web
site.

If you need more advice on html formatting, you should ask in an html coding
forum.

Graham, Your suggestion might work; however, it represents a tremendous amount of work to attain the web page in Notepad. The web page is a 3-column 8.5 x 14 page with graphics, symbols, text boxes, etc that cannot be opened in Notepad. I couldn't even build this type page in Notepad starting from scratch.

My provider hinted that previous versions of MS Word had the capability to
handle a counter by operating from View, HTML Source Function. However, this
capability has apparently been removed from the View Menu. I would have
thought that Microsoft would have provided another way???

Word 2003 did have a handy script editor (ALT+SHIFT+F11). It wouldn't have
been any better for this particular task than Notepad. Notepad has the
ability to paste text.

Word has always been a poor tool for web page creation. Microsoft has
dedicated Web creation tools such as FrontPage (which some service providers
offer as a freebie) and its rather less approachable replacement..
