need help on "lookup" formular

Hi Masters,

My boss wants me to design a formular for "lookup". He
wants to type a name into a cell and then the next cell
has to automaticlly generate a number to match it and the
number should stay with it always.

I am not good at excel and this is a kind of mission
critical.

Could you please help me out?

are the names and numbers related?
