NEED HELP, PLEASE ! Entourage Appears to be corrupting PDF files

Email Client: imap

I recently moved from POP to IMAP, and have started having problems opening PDF files (and YES they are fully downloaded, 'get info' shows the file is complete).

When I try to open, or save, the pdf files I get the message that
"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

PDF's that I have previously received, or that I have in my files open just fine.

When I use webmail to look at the files on my IMAP server the pdf's open just fine (the same ones that are "corrupt" when I try to open them via Entourage). Hmmmm.

Also, in advanced options, I have unchecked the option to limit download sizes (even though the pdf's that do not open weren't large anyway).

I'm stumped, and cannot find any seeming solutions using google and forums. If you have some help, it will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Oops, probably should have mentioned that I have uninstalled Adobe Reader and downloaded a new copy (v. 9.1.0). This, frustratingly, did not fix the problem.

Thanks.

I don't understand -- how does Get Info show that the file is complete? Get
Info will describe how much has been downloaded, but if the file is not
fully downloaded, I don't know how Get Info will tell you.

Despite your assertion above, it sounds like the files are not fully
downloaded.

Hmmmm.
This tends to confirm my opinion.

That, on the other hand, tends to confirm yours. Have you also checked
"Download complete message bodies"?

Thanks!
If none of those work, I'm stumped too. :-(

Ed, thanks very much for your post and effort to help.

I have now had more time to dig into this, and suspect that the problem may have been the download limitation afterall (as you suspected!). While I did have the "always download complete message bodies" checked, it may have been that I was offline when this was checked and that it was not "saved" in my IMAP settings when I went back online?? (which seems unlikely since it is the email client not the server that should register this setting?) Other than that explanation I continue to be stumped, but also greatly relieved that it I am now able to successfully receive pdf attachments -- as I tend to often get a number of these every day!

Again thanks for your interest in, and effort to, help.

I'm not sure why you had the problems since, as you note, it should be the
client that preserves these settings. But I'm glad you managed to get it
fixed. Thanks for the feedback.

I have the same problem, so thanks for the post. I downloaded the entire file
and that seems to have fixed it. Holding my breath...and hopes this will work
