My computer came with Works Suite 2001. Lately Word 2000
SR1 has been crashing and the error-analysis program told
me to update it. I can't install the update because it
wants the Office 2000 CD and the file "data1.msi". This
file exists on the Works Suite 2001 CD1 at
location "D:\MSWord\DATA1.MSI", but the update program
won't accept it. What do I do now?

Can I upgrade at all or what?

One reason WORD can do weird things is because of
a "WORKS addin" for WORD. I would remove that first (see
Control Panel, Remove Programs) before beginning to
troubelshoot a WORKS/WORD installation mix.
Also, sounds as if you really need that WORD installation
CD for the msi file.
