Need Help!! Project Server 2003 SP1 and PWA

D

Daryl Zavier

Hi Guys,

After installed the SP1 for the Project Server 2003, I'm unable to connect
to my Project Server via my IE-PWA anymore. I was formerly able to do so
before applying SP1. Now whenever I access the homepage of my Project Server,
I encounter a EULA agreement and upon clicking "Agree", the downloading
controls screen appears before dumping me back to the EULA agreement.

This repeated cycle of EULA and downloading controls screen happens
indefinitely and my Project Server website is under my IE trusted site thus
all controls are available (ActiveX Scripting etc).

I'm on w2k SP4 and IE6 SP1 and my Project Server is on a machine running
IIS6 and Windows Sharepoint Services.

Any help/hint/advice is greatly appreciated!!

You should remove the currently installed versions of the active X objects.
The most effective way to do this is from a DOS prompt. Navigate to
\windows\downloaded program files directory and execute del pj*.* at the DOS
prompt. Your other option is to do this from within IE. Select Tools >
Options > General Tab. Under temporary internet files click the settings
button. In the settings dialog, click on view Objects button and delete the
pj* objects in the window. The DOS method guarantees that hidden files are
also deleted.

Daryl,
We also found that users with Norton/Symantec firewalls couldn't get past
the EULA until they changed some settings. (Even the first time, before they
had ever downloaded any version of the components.) If removing the ActiveX
controls doesn't work and your users have Norton/Symantec firewalls, I can
give you some steps for changing those settings.

Jo,

I've tried to delete the project files (pj*.*) via DOS and I still get the
same mindless loop between the EULA and Downloading Controls screen. I'm not

Daryl,

The settings that I know of that can be changed relate to the firewall, not
the anti-virus. Various users, at home or on laptops, have Symantec Client
Firewall, Norton Internet Security, or Norton System Works, that latter two
of which include Norton Anti-Virus, but the settings relate to the firewall.

Symantec Client Firewall and Norton System Works: must allow your Project
Server to set Cookies and see Referer information. (In the Advanced Options.)

Norton Internet Security: must permit your Project Server to see Information
about Visited Sites. (On the "Web Content" tab under Options - Internet
Security (NIS2003) or the "Web Content Options" tab when configuring Privacy
Control (NIS2004).)

I don't know anything about other brands of firewall software, including the
XP SP2 firewall.

Hi Gary & Jo,

Thanks for both of your help. I've managed to get access to my Project
Server 2003 via the PWA finally. What I did was to delete away the downloaded
ActiveX objects, removed my project 2002 professional on my PC and deleted my
user account on the Project Server. After that I basically recreated my user
account on the Project Server and ensured that I was able to connect via PWA
before installed everything back.

Everything works like a charm now, thanks again! =)
