Need help to figure out a strong look up for pay tables

I am in the military and building a medium sized Access database. I am
currently trying to figure out a good way to track a soldiers pay for the
day. First step would be to use their entry date to calculate out how many
years of service the soldier has. Then look up the pay grade and years of
service to find out the daily pay for the soldier. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

See the Finance Officr as they have standardized pay tables for computing
cost of community support. I know as I, SSG, did an after action report for
time I provided closed circuit television support for a community opera
production.
