Need help with error when launching Word 2000 in Windows ME

When launching Word, I am receiving the following error --

Winword has caused an error in
WINWORD.EXE
Winword will now close.

If you continue to experience problems,
try restating your computer.

I have restarted multiple times but am still unable to
launch the program. I am running Windows ME. Does anyone
have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
