I have an ODBC 3.0 application that works just fine on all of my client
configurations except one. The problem client was configured as follows:
The basic configuration is NT4.0/Office 97 with all service packs.
Access 97 is not installed. At one point MDAC 2.5 SP3 was installed;
however, the machine was upgraded to MDAC 2.7 to eliminate the problem
discussed in KB article 170652. The end result of this installation
path is that the currently installed version of odbcjt32.dll is
3.50.3428.00 dated 7/11/97. That driver version causes application
crashes when accessing certain text files. The crash does not occur
with odbcjt32.dll version 4.0.6200.00. MSQuery also crashes with the
old driver.
So the question is how to get the updated Jet engine and drivers onto
this machine. An exhaustive search through MSDN has led me to the
following conclusions:
The engine and drivers I want are most likely included with Jet 4.0 SP3,
but that release has been superceded by Jet 4.0 SP7 and the SP3 download
appears to be no longer available.
Jet 4.0 SP7 can only be installed if you already have Jet 4.0.
The Jet engine/drivers are not included in MDAC 2.6 or later.
There doesn't seem to be any means of upgrading from Jet3 to Jet4 short
of updating the whole darn OS and/or Office Suite which is not a
feasible option for me.
All I want is to have MDAC 2.7, Jet 4.0, NT 4.0 and Office 97
sans-Access co-existing peacefully on an otherwise stable system.
Can someone please give me a clue as to how I can accomplish this?
