Need Help With Outlook Address Book (2003)

Hi all,

I have a strange issue here.

In my OAB (2003) I have a sublisting for my contacts, but there are no
listings in the OAB itself. Am I supposed to import a list from, say, the
Outlook Express Address Book (.csv), or is there a way to make my contact
list appear in the OAB?

I followed all of the directions in the article, but the OAB still has no
listings. I even deleted the old OAB and created a new one, but the
listings are not there...Except in the OAB subfolder called "contacts".

The Outlook Address Book contains no data. All you need to do is configure
it to show your Contacts:

And that's exactly what you should see. There will be one (or more,
depending on how many Contacts folders you have) Contacts folders under
"Outlook Address Book". Those Contacts folders will contain your contact
data. Why do you believe anything is wrong?

I could have sworn that there were listings in the OAB (before I did a
format & reinstall), but I could have been mistaken....I guess I was
mistaken.

But I don't feel too bad about it after seeing all of the questions
regarding this issue on Google groups. MS could have done a much better
job of letting people know that there were not supposed to be listings the
OAB itself.

It's very confusing to the average pc operator.

Thanks for helping me to clear this up Brian!

All I did was reformat & reinstall XP Home.

My HD has 4 partitions and I reformatted the C drive, but I alway kept the
Outlook.pst folder on D drive. When Outlook was reinstalled I had to create
a new e-mail account. I then closed Outlook; went to the C:\Documents and
Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and renamed
the new .pst file to .old.

That in turn allowed me to open Outlook and guide it to the .pst file on D
drive. I just didn't remember how the OAB used to look before the
reinstall...I mean, I could have sworn that their were addresses listed
there (besides having them in contacts subfolders too).

I guess all is well now since I'm not supposed to have address listings in
the OAB in the first place.
