Need help with setting up a website

I am trying to create a website on FP for my riding club. Unfortunately I am
not computer savvy, however, I am willing to try. So far things are
progressing OK considering I know nothing. Here is what I want to do and
wonder if anyone can help me.
I keep "points" for each club member, I also do a newsletter. These points
change every month and I keep these in "excel" & "word" folders on my
computer. What I would like is for the members to be able to go to the
website, click the word points or newsletters and it take them to the file so
they can view it as they wish.

I hope this makes sense to you guys, but that is where I am stuck... Now I
don't know anything about HTML or any of that stuff so if you do try to help
me consider me your grandmother and realize how difficult it would be to
explain this to her.

If this is something that gets updated periodically, and not
real-time, what I do is create PDF documents from both Excel and Word
documents and put them on the website. I never put the actual Excel
or Word files on the site. That way anyone can open the file without
regard to having Office programs, versions, etc. Be sure you import
the files to a folder on your FrontPage web. Don't just copy them.

In the most simple form, just put a text title, like "Points" on your
page. Then highlight it with your mouse, right click and click on
Hyperlink Properties. Then browse to the PDF file you imported to the
folder on your frontpage site. That will create a hyperlink to the
file which, when clicked by a member, will open the PDF file.

If you don't have a PDF creator, take a look at PDF995. There is a
free version that works great. The way you use it is to first open
your Excel or Word document, then select print, but choose PDF995
instead of your regular printer. PDF995 will create the PDF file and
place it in the folder you choose. Don't put it directly into
FrontPage. You always have to import from somewhere else.

Import the file into your web and create a link to it on a page, as you
would create a link to any other page.
With the web open in FrontPage, use File->Import and browse to the Excel
or Word document.

I agree with what Dick said about the PDF option, there are plenty of
free PDF creators out there, Easy PDF Creator is another one -

Another opotion would be to simply save the Word or Excel file as a
webpage file (or HTML). If you open your file and go to File-->Save As
you'll be able to choose from the "save file as" drop down and pick
"Web Page (*.htm, *.html)" and same that in the same folder as your
original. Now you can import that file to your web and create a link
to it so others can view it. Keep in mind that this isn't the greatest
of options, some data may not look completely correct, but it will get
you going quickly and give you time to learn how to create a PDF.

I agree with Ronx and I do this all the time as I operate a running website
whereby results change the positions of runners all the time. Just create a
folder in your Website to save all the Excel or Word documents relating to
the subject to keep them tidy. Then all you have to do is from whereever,
possibly your homepage, create a hyperlink to the required folder and file.

Editor29 - I'm not sure if you know, but your site doesn't work well
with Firefox, just an observation. And there's some free java code
that you can use to get the time (any time zone) so you don't have to
use ClockLink - which had a problem on my side. Again, not to
criticize, but to critique.

The issue with just keeping your docs on the website and not converting
them at all is that you run the risk that someone will not be able to
open the file. If I don't have Word or Excel how to I open the file?
And if I have an older version then you have I can't open the file
either. If you have a small target group and they know that they all
can open the files then your great, but if you're try to keep a wide
market you'll really want to use a PDF or convert to a HTML file.
