Need help with sheet protection.

I need to protect formula in some cells but still edit and format other cells. I tried unlocking everthing but the cells with the formula then setting the sheet protection. When I did this, I was not able to format the unlocked cells. Am I doing something wrong? I thought that was the purpose of leaving certain cells unlocked. Any thoughts

Erik,

what version of Excel are you using? If you're using Excel 2K3 you can
specify what protection you would like to enforce when you are protecting
the sheet. So, you could specify that users can still format cells.
