Greetings!
We are having problems with a document that appears to be associated
with the Brochure template. I guess the main question is whether or
not a document can be dis-associated with a template and become a
"standalone" document.
The history is this:
I had been opening various versions of the document from a folder on
my machine for many years with no issues. I make some changes to a
text box, save it under a new date and all is good. A few weeks ago,
whenever I opened *any* version of the document, even versions that
had not been touched in years, everything after Column 1 had shifted
downward by a few lines messing up the layout. There are lots of
picture and text boxes in the document, so it takes a bit of work to
fix it.
Now, this document is in a shared folder on my machine so I went to
another machine and every version opened correctly with no shifting. I
called our IT department and after comparing margin settings and much
head scratching, they decided to "repair" my MS office installation
and the problem went away.
Here's my current problem:
I copied the document from my machine (A) to a shared folder on
machine (B) so our entire team can access it. I opened the document
from B on my machine after I stored it there and it opened fine. Note:
We are working with a corporate image, so all machines should have the
same version of all applications installed.
When a user on another machine (C) opened the document from B, we
found that the columns had shifted, exactly like they had on my
machine before the MS Office repair was done. She fixed the document
and saved it under different name back onto the shared folder on
machine B. Now, if the document is opened on A or B it is messed up -
the columns are shifted *up* since user C had to remove line feeds to
fix it. If A or B insert line feeds to get the layout right, it opens
incorrectly on machine C - shifted down again.
Based on how the IT department fixed the original problem on my
machine, it appears that machine C needs to have its MS Office
repaired so that she can use this document. This does not seem to make
sense to me - 2 machines with broken Office installations impacting
only the Brochure template? In addition, I won't know how widespread
this problem is until all users try to use this document.
So back to my original question: If it is possible to dis-associated
this document from the Brochure template, I'm hoping the problem will
go away.
Your thoughts?
