Need Help: Word is Automatically Changing Hyperlink Codes

Hi there,

I am working as an independent contractor for a news agency. They hyperlink references to other documents on their system with an internal code of "CITE:Number Source Number". However, when I enter this code in the hyperlink "Link to" field, Word automatically changes the link to "file//localhost/CITE/Number Source Number". This does not work when I send to my contact at the agency. How can I change the formatting settings to allow me to put in a specific code? I have tried to use both the webpage and document settings, but neither seems to work.

I feel like this should be a pretty easy fix if I could figure out how to disable the automatic formatting for these codes. Please help!

Thank you!
Jules

Hi Jules:

Enter the hyperlink as you have been doing, then save the document.

Then right-click the hyperlink, Toggle Field Codes, and fix what's there.

Toggle the field codes back and save it again.

That should fix it.

Sorry, it's broken...

Cheers

By default the Hyperlink displays the full path to the target. You can use
the Display line in the Insert> Hyperlink dialog to have it display
differently. In this case:

Link to: file//localhost/CITE/Number Source Number

Display: CITE:Number Source Number

You can also have something else used in the tip box that displays on hover
by using the Screen Tip box in that same dialog. For existing links
Control/Right-Click & select Hyperlink> Edit Hyperlink.
