NEED IMMEDIATE HELP: Saved excel as a text document by accident?

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I did something very stupid. I downloaded a document from finance.yahoo.com and needed to save it as an excel document. I right clicked it and saved it as EXCEL. So now when I open excel all it opens is the document I saved and all other saved excel files on my computer will not open as excel. It is really messed up. I cannot open up excel as a normal application. How do I reverse what I did?
