Need more than 255 characters in a text field

I need to add a couple of long text fields to Tasks. The Text1 - 30 fields
are perfect, except for one thing: they're not long enough. What I really
need is a few Notes fields, but I'm starting to get the feeling that there is
no such option in Project (I'm using 2007 and 2003).
Any quick and easy way to get longer text fields into my Task tables?
Many thanks.

Hi Ted M H,

Sorry, the text fields are limited to 255 characters. The limit is
set in the underlying database and is not adjustable.

Have you considered hyperlinking a Word document to your tasks? You
could then edit the word document and with one click read the newly
edited doc. The other option is to embed a file in the Notes field.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that would be the answer...I'll probably
end up doing something like using a text field for some of the tasks, and
then for those that require more than 255 characters I'll have the text field
refer to a hyperlink. That'll work.

You're welcome Ted. You don't need to use a spare text field for
the hyperlink -- just insert a hyperlink and it will show in the
Indicator column. If you prefer, you can add the hyperlink address
field to show the hyperlink info in a table.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the link--nice site. The reason that I'm not using the notes
field is because I want a dedicated field to describe a task's deliverables.
I use the notes field for more general information and for embedding other
files when appropriate. Certainly I could make notes work for this, but for
me it's cleaner if I can isolate deliverables in their own field. Thanks for
the suggestion.
