Need roman numerals to be lower case in a table of contents

I have my page numbers as lower case roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc).
However, my table of contents shows them as upper case roman numerals (I, II,
III, etc). I need to have them shown in the table of contents as lower case.
How do I do that?

What version of Word are you using? Go to the table of contents and press
Alt+F9. That will reveal the underlying field code. Copy the contents of the
field and paste it into a reply here so we can see what you're working with.

The version I am using is Word 2003. The code in the table of contents is as
follows: { TOC \0 "1-3" \H \Z \T "1 SECTION,1,2 SUBSECTION,2,3 TOPIC,3" }.

I would guess that the setting for the TOC style in use is upper case, and
it is just applying that to the page numbers as well. Is the corresponding
title also in all caps in the TOC?

You could either make the TOC style *not* be all caps, or you could change
the page numbers after the fact (and change them again every time you update
the TOC).

If the TOC style was not in caps, would it still recognized the title as
being in caps and simply show page numbers and titles in whatever case they
were intended to be? I guess I could change them manually as well. If there
were an easier way . . .

It may depend on whether you typed the title in all caps, or made it all
caps because the style used for the title applied all caps, if that makes
sense.

I changed it manually. It was fairly painless and, in the long run, quicker
I think than messing around too closely with the TOC codes. Thanks for your
help.
