Need schedule that shows at a glance who is working and where

We use Office XP. We would like to develop a schedule that shows each week
separately. We have full and part-time people. Most weeks' schedules vary.
We would like to enter each worker's schedule data and translate it to an
easy to read color graph.
Currently we use an Excel workbook for each month with different worksheets
within it for each week. Names are listed in column A, columns B-G show the
day at the top with shift times entered in individual cells below each day.

What's the gap? What do you want to do that you can't do in Excel? Or
Word? Or PowerPoint (or pen and paper)?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
