need some help, word 2000 is being retarded

I recently reinstalled word 2k on to my new vista computer but when I try to
open it all i get is a damn hang.

I have tried most of the stuff suggested on the MS page for fixing the
hanging issue, but none of it has worked.

One thing I noticed is that I do not have a normal.doc file anywhere on my
computer and also when word starts, nothing is getting put into the startup
folder. Also, when trying to open templates manually, word says that it can
not find them even those they are there.


I have tried reinstalling several times, but its always the same outcome.

wth can I do to fix this?

Normal.dot (I assume you meant) is not created until it is needed: viz when
you open Word and make a setting change that needs normal.dot to save the
change.

The usual reason for not getting past the opening screen is either a corrupt
or missing printer driver set as the Windows Default.

holy crap, that actually worked. changed the default printer to something
else and word opened.
