need some help

I am writing a TRD at work and need to custom number in two different
parts of the document. In the Functional Spec part I need to number as
follows:

F1.1.1
F1.1.1.1
F1.1.1.1.1
and so on

In the Design Spec part

D1.1.1
D1.1.1.1
D1.1.1.1.1

and so on.

How do I do this? I have tried several times, and even got the F1.1.1
part to work, but when I try to change it to D, the F part changes to
D also. I am tearing my hair out, (I don't have much to spare) Any
suggestions on how I might accomplish this?

Create a Style based on the F-style, slightly renamed and with the obvious
change applied. Also in the Style Modify dialog, maybe clear the
Automatically update box.
