Need to recover work from an overwritten word document

I accidently lost an important document. I closed the file and begun working
on a new document. When it came time to close the new document i accidently
named it that same as the one previously mentioned. It came up with the
warning do you wish of overwrite existing file and i accidently hit ok. I
know the time i did this. Is there any way i can recover the overwritten
document.

Not if you did not have the setting to Always create backup copy checked.

For an important document, you would of course have made a backup of it,
independent of the above facility in Word? No. Then it can't have been
that important.
