2003 outlook really has trouble sending/receiving. i pushed something, don't
know what, and whole files, contacts, inbox, etc. disappeared. must start
over and have lost important emails and folders. and contacts. i believe
they are still in therre someplace as the contact will come up after three
strokes. this has happened twice and once again i am having trouble
sending/receiving in outlook. only part of the emails noted at the bottom of
the screen will download.

It seems you may have multiple problems. Sending & receiving is one problem.
Losing your emails and contacts is another. Also, when you say a contact
comes up after three strokes, do you mean keystrokes? This could be simply
the nickname cache since you've stated you lost your contacts.

My recommendation is to recreate your profile following these steps:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

You should also know the location of your PST file, Outlook data file. The
default name is outlook.pst unless it's been changed to another name (eg
korland.pst). The PST file contains your emails, contacts, calendar, etc.

Once you have recreated your profile, test it and if you continue to
experience send/receive problems please post back with the error messages in
their entirety. This will entail that you view the send/receive progress and
note the errors.
