Need to use identity from backup

M

Mark O'Brien

I had to send my MacBook in for repair (Random Shutdown problem) on 24
August, and made a bootable backup on an external FireWire drive with
SuperDuper before shipping it.

The MacBook is still out for repair, showing it's "on hold" for a heat sink
as of today (7 Sep).

I need to look at the calendar in Entourage on the MacBook backup, but I
can't boot my circa 2002 iMac (Flat Panel) G4 with my Intel version of
10.4.7 that's on the FireWire drive - I get a kernel panic.

I tried double-clicking on the Entourage database file on the external
drive, but the local identity on my iMac launches.

I tried to access the identity on the external drive using "Switch
Identity..." in the Entourage menu on the iMac, but there doesn't seem to be
any way to access an identity that's not on the iMac's internal drive.

Any thoughts?

Replying to my own post - I neglected to mention both machines run Entourage
2004 with the latest updates.

Put an alias to the identity folder (~/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004
Identities/[your identity name]) from the back up in the real 'Office 2004
Identities' folder in the iMac. Then, switch identities should work OK.
