How do I go about buying word software for my 98 Windows?
I have a 97 Acer Computer upgraded to 98 Windows second
edition. I need this software so that my daughter can do
her college term papers. We are confused in which software
to buy for our computer system. Please we need expert
advice quick. Also will Office XP work on my computer even
being that old?

Yes, you can install Office or Word standalone up to version XP for running
on a Windows 98 computer. As your daughter is in full time education at
college, she is entitled to the Student/Teachers version. You purchase a
boxed product that contains a form which needs to be completed and stamped
by the college. This is then sent to Microsoft who will then send you the CD
and product key. If it is only Word that is required, don't purchase the
standalone version of Word, but purchase the Works Suite that includes Word.
Just make sure that the Works Add-in for Word isn't installed as this has
more bugs that a Tramp's Bedding. Please note that the about-to-be-launched
Word/Office 2003 will NOT install under Windows 98.

I believe the Student/Teacher edition is only for K-12.

I'll see if I can clarify that on the MS Licensing site.

But "Academic" versions are often available in college bookstores at greatly
reduced prices.
