i am creating Mess management sheet and has format that if someone is present
for the particular time i put "p" as present and "a" and count all presents
and absents by using COUNTIF(C17:BL17,"p") but the problem is that how to
count 2p as twice if someone has guest with him etc

If you enter 2p to represent a guest, do it like this:

=COUNTIF(C17:BL17,"p") + COUNTIF(C17:BL17,"2p")*2
