Needing Access2003

My computer came with Microsoft Office XP Small Business Edition 2002, which doesn't have Access. Now, for one of my college courses, I need Access.

On this webpage, it says that Office XP Small Business Edition is eligible for the upgrade, but it also says "Determine whether your current version of Microsoft Access qualifies you for the upgrade price." Seeing how Small Business edition doesn't have a version of Access, I was confused by this. Also, the clerk at Staples told me I had to have a previous version of Access to qualify for the upgrade

I just wanted to clear this up. Do I need the full version or can I get buy with the upgrade? I'm a poor college student and a 100 dollar difference is a big deal--and I'd hate to buy the upgrade just to learn it won't work. Thanks a lot for any reply.

Check at your college bookstore -- I think you will find that the Academic
Edition of Microsoft Access is very attractively priced. But, there are few
features that you're likely to need in Access 2003 that are not in Access
2002 unless you are in an enterprise corporate environment, so if the
bookstore doesn't have the price you need, visit a few online auction sites
and look for Office XP Pro or Access 2002.

FWIW, you can upgrade from a version of Office that does not
have Access to a version that does, or from a version of Access
to a later version of Access, or from a version of Office that
does not have Access to a later version of Access, or.....

To make it easier, MS only has one upgrade version, and one
upgrade price, even though there are many kinds of upgrade.

Specifically, you may upgrade Office XP Small Business Edition
to include Access 2003.

But note that those cross version upgrades add one extra
thing to go wrong with your installation!
