Hi
I have a machine with and iritation.
When ' or " is typed nothing appears unless the spacebar is pressed.
Same occurs in notepad.
All similar machines I have tried are normal.

AMD Athlon 1800 Windows XP with all updates and service packs.
Office 2002 with all updates and service packs.

You have an international keyboard layout selected. Change it in Control
Panel | Keyboard | Input Locales.
