negative space in subform box on general form

I have a subform box on a general form. The box has to be somewhat large as
about 2/3 of the time the information is pretty big. During the other 1/3
time, though, the "empty" space in the subform box is a neutral grey color.
I have the form itself set to resize (grow/shrink) and it does that fine,
within the box. I'd love to make transparent the box on the main form that
the subform is set inside of, but I don't know how. I haven't seen a
"transparent" property for the box.

Perhaps I could do a DCount that would count how many rows there are,
multiply by the height of the rows and set the size accordingly whenever the
page is refreshed, but only to a maximum size so as not to overwhelm the rest
of the page. But, the page already takes 1-2 seconds to reload, and that
would be a lot of work. It would be much easier to simply set the box on the
main form that the subform is inside of to transparent.
