Nested Sub-Totals in Excel

I'm having problems with nested sub-totals in Excel. The original sub-totals
works well, but when I try to do a nested sub-total, the nested function
doesn't appear to be working. Surprisingly, I didn't have a problem until
this past September. I'm still using the same version of Excel 2003 and have
used several different computers with the same result.
Has anyone else encountered this? And, do you have a solution for me?

Multilevel subtotals are in the wrong position in Excel 2002 and in Excel 2003

If I already have service pack 2 on my computer, would installing service
pack 1 cause any problems?

Don't install SP1 over SP2. (I'd be surprised if you were even allowed to do
this.)


I use xl2003SP2 and don't have that key in my registry. And the data|subtotals
go where they belong.

Are you sure you're applying them in the correct order?

I figured that I shouldn't try to install SP1 if I already had SP2. But,
since I'm not a systems person, I thought I had better ask the stupid
question!

I've got quite a few years experience with the MS Office Suite and have been
doing nested sub-totals for quite some time. I hadn't experienced this
problem until last month at work when I was switched from a desktop running
on XP to a laptop running on XP. I sent the same file to several other
people to see if I could replicate the problem on their equipment ... sadly,
it replicated 4 different times.

I can do nested sub-totals on my personal equipment (laptop and desktop)
both running XP. However, if I try to do nested sub-totals on the same file,
I get the same results as I got at work.

It's very frustrating.
