Each month I prepare a spreadsheet that has Territory, State and Model as
column headings. I usually subtotal first by territory, then subtotal by
State (not replacing the territory subtotals) then by Model (not replacing
territory or state subtotals). For some reason, this month the first subtotal
(Territory) is correct, the second (State) is correct, however, when I try to
add the third subtotal (Model) excel refuses to use the header row and
instead uses the first line of data as the header. If I insert a blank row
above the header - it gives me the standard (excel cannot determine which
row... message) if I delete the blank row it won't default to the header but
goes right to the first line of data? I saved the file as .xls instead of
..xlsx and opened it on another computer with the same problem - is it the
file?
