nested templates?

I am in the process of creating my document templates:
business letter [one for home addresses and one for
office addresses], contracts [6], reports [numerous],
meeting minutes, etc.

Common to all of these different templates is my
company's letterhead.

In the past, to create these different templates, I have
always started with the letterhead template and modified
it to create one of the other templates. The problem with
this approach is that when I change or modify the
information on my letterhead, I need to remember to do it
in all of the other document templates.

Is there a way to "nest" my letterhead template into the
other document templates so that if I would like to
change something on my letterhead for all of the
documents, I can change it in one place only, the
letterhead template?

Thank you.

Hi Craig

Hmm - you could use INCLUDETEXT or LINK field(s) in the templates to bring
in the letterhead data from a common source, and an AutoNew macro to unlink
the fields when a new document is created (assuming you don't want the links
live in the documents). But is it worth the complexity? (Just how often do
you move/change your phone number? <g>)

Thank you for your response, however the question is not
one of how often I move/change my phone number[even
though this question is prompted by exactly that] but
rather is there a simple way to nest templates into other
templates without being overly complex?

Since I am starting from scratch, I thought that I would
get some advice on setting things up properly from the
beginning so that I don't have to revisit this for a
long, long time.

I used the information on the letterhead as a simple
example, however I have several threads of common
information snaking through my various documents, that
would be much easier to change by modifying the "root
template" then changing them all individually.

I do not fully understand the solution you propose in
your response, but I certainly do not want to make this
more complex.
