.NET 1.1 built application install and MS Office Incompatibilities

I've got a .NET 1.1 application that during the install process it is supose
to detect and attach tables to an SQL MSDE database. It seems to be that when
the app gets to that point of detection of MSDE, it hangs without error.
Office 2003 and/or 2007 is installed on the workstations. Is there a known
bug or incompatibilty with the combination of MSDE, .NET 1.1, and MS Office
that would cause this symptom?
