I just upgraded to a new computer, running Vista Home Premium. We've
installed Office XP pro 2002 for our needs. Now when I load Outlook for
email, we get the following:
1. A request to log on to the server, Presumably the mail server. I type
in my email address, and password, then get the following:
! Task 'mail.earthlink.net -Sending and Receiving' reported error
(0x800CCC92) : 'Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name
and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts.
The server responded: -ERR syntax error'
After we then cancel all, and click on 'Send/Receive', email works normally
with no errors. As long as I have Outlook open, we can S/R with no issues.
Once we close it the cycle starts again.
What I've done"
1. Verified correct username and pw on the existing email account.
2. Deleted the email account, and put in a new account. Same result.
3. Tried the " outgoing SMTP" requires authentication. No changes.
I don't understand how after cancelling the error msg, that everything then
works properly.
Help and TIA,
