Network connectivity problems

A

Alex Cowley

I have a 3 WinXP home network that connects to the internet via a wireless
router & a DSL modem. Until recently, it worked perfectly.

For no apparent reason, I now regularly loose internet connectivity,
sometimes after a short period of time, other times after an hour or so.

When I loose internet connectivity, I am also unable to access the network
and am unable to ping 192.168.0.1; I get a timed out message.

However, I am perfectly able to connect just my PC to the internet using the
DSL modem (i.e., without a router) and do not experience any problems with
connectivity.

Given the above, I assumed I had a router problem. The new router
experiences the same problems.

Hello Alex,

Your understanding is correct that this is a Windows XP connection issue.
I also notice you have submitted the same question in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroup and my colleague, Vincent
Xu, has replied there.

Let's we focus on that thread on this issue, please. It is easier for us
to track your issue and make sure we respond promptly.

Thanks and have a great day!

Regards,
